The Classic Black Silhouette

Dressing for a wedding isn't the most exciting chore for a guy. Not to mention, there isn't always a whole lot of variety when it comes to men's wedding attire. But with just a little attention to detail and the willingness to step outside your boundaries just a wee bit you'd be surprised at how you're able to elevate your look. And while the rest of the men are staring at the women...guess who they'll be staring at?

Read on and pay attention...

The look I was going for here, in the picture shown above, was to emphasize the clean lines and sharpness that only a solid black suit can express. The tailoring on this piece gave me a finished look. I chose a subtle stripe pattern in the shirt and accented that with a solid, yet bold tie, patterned pocket square, and silver cufflinks which played the melody in harmony with the shirt. The stunner was the addition of the black rose.
I took the traditional idea of a boutonniere and added a twist to it with this faux black rose. The combination of the black silk on the black merely add to the elegance of the silhouette as they create a subtle contrast between the sharp, sleek lines of the suit and the organic form of the flower. A simple addition of such an accessory can draw the right kind of attention, and set you apart from the crowd… Elevation.

shopmyclothes.com and UPC events

Jonny Elias, one of the founders of shopmyclothes.com, and Chris used to work together at a consulting firm and became fast friends. They kept in touch as each of them expanded on their entrepreneurial endeavours. As Elevations blossomed, so did shopmyclothes.com, an e-bay-esque buy, sell and barter site specifically targeted for the fashion-conscious who may be looking for more exclusive and hip pre-owned clothing and accessories. Launched in January of 2010, shopmyclothes.com has made several strong connections in the retail world and has a variety of desirable items for hipsters of all sorts. Some of the featured brands on their website include big names such as Nike, Adidas, Tiffany's, BCBG Max Azaria, Alexander Wang, Jean Paul Gaultier and the list goes on.

We, along with our favourite blogger Erica Francis of
downtomarsgirl.com, attended their official launch party on Thursday held at Uncle Otis in Yorkville and sponsored by Stella Artois, and it was a great party. Jonny and his team have a lot of support, and have proven what wonderful things can happen when a need is identified, and you work hard to service that need.

That same night, another great clothing source UPC Boutique was celebrating their 3rd anniversary. Yorkville was buzzing with Indian summer night energy. Maha, the co-owner, and friends put on a great party complete with drinks and music. UPC's cutting edge pieces from up-and-coming designers are strictly for the fashion-forward. They are where the runway meets the street in Toronto, and provide an alternative to the big and somewhat predictable big name brand houses. Elevations is proud to say that we've actually had the opportunity to work with this very trendy store for one of our very own photoshoots. You want to see what's next, check out upcboutique.com.

Sounds of Fashion

Elevations was contacted by one of the Creative Directors of an event called Sounds of Fashion. Nicole Geer and her team managed to put together a wonderful fashion show that incorporated local young Toronto designers and musical artists to showcase their talents. Nicole needed an outfit that was just as much a show-stopper as the designers work that she was showcasing. She came to Elevations, and we worked quickly to give her a unique, sexy look, with an 80s feel. The outfit was hot and the show was incredible. We got a chance to experience our homegrown up-and-comers who will soon be holding court on our biggest runways and stages. Wanna know how it all went down? Check it out...

Haute Couture for Haiti Fashion Show

Nothing's better than doing something you love to help support a cause. The Haute Couture for Haiti Fashion Show brought together Toronto's elite up-and-coming designers in an effort to raise funds on behalf of Plan Canada for the devasted island of Haiti. The event drew a big crowd and showcased many of Toronto's next generation designers. It was inspiring being in the room with such talents as Kendra Francis of Franke, Brandon Dwyer and Lisa and Brian of Lizares. Here's some pics from the evening.

The fashion show showcased work from Sunny Fong's line Vawk, David Dixon, Franke, Lucian Matis, Jessica Biffi, Brandon R. Dwyer, and Aime and was held at the ever so classy, Roosevelt Room in the heart of the Entertainment District.
